Hello! I am back with a couple of projects as part of Altenew’s Educator Certification Program (AECP) I am participating in. This is my tenth and final submission to level 1 – All About Layering classes. These projects were inspired by all the layering classes; in particular, the layering 3 and 4 classes taught by Lydia Evans.
These cards feature the gorgeous Altenew’s Craft Your Life Project Kit – Lush Garden.
This is the last of the four stamp-layering classes. Each of the layering class progressively showcased more complex layering stamp sets. As in prior layering classes, the key to working with layering stamps is finding two or three match points as well as following the layering guide. This stamp set has groupings drawn around them, so you know which stamps belong together to create the image. For more complex layering stamp sets such as this one, I found it to be easier to die cut the images first and then stamp.
Card #1 – Hello
To begin, I die-cut the daisy and leaf on heavy weight cardstock. I used the negative space as the jig for stamping and used the Misti tool in case I need to re-stamp. Next, after matching two or three points, I stamped the outline with VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. Then, I stamped the next four layers and the floral center. For variety, I opted for Altenew’s Cool Summer Night and Artic Mountain mini-ink cube sets for the daisy. For the daisy center, I used Altenew Buttercream and Warm Sunshine crisp dye inks. For the leaves, I used Altenew Tropical Forest mini-ink cubes set.
One of the takeaways from Lydia’s sessions was to use some element such as a die cut as background for added texture and interest without taking attention away from the focal. Here, I opted to use Altenew’s Brick Wall 3D embossing folder as background to enhance the floral cluster. In addition, I die cut two small rectangle outline frames from Tim Holtz black kraft card stock. I staggered the frames and adhered to the A2 background panel before gluing the flowers and leaves at the bottom right corner. Separately, I applied some anti-static powder on a piece of scrap cardstock, stamped the “Hello” sentiment from Altenew’s Craft Your Life Project Kit – Feathered Lilies with VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. I affixed two more white cardstock scraps behind the sentiment for dimension and adhered it to the panel. I finished the card with some black enamel dots.
Card #2 – Just a Note
For the second card, I followed the same approach as the first card by die-cutting first before stamping the layers. This time, I used two large flowers and one daisy. Inks used: Altenew’s Sugared Candies crisp dye ink mini cube, Buttercream and Warm Sunshine.
For the background, I thought the 3D embossing folder that came with this project kit would enhance the floral arrangement. Since I wanted to make a slim line card, I needed to extend the emboss image. First, I cut a slim line 3 ½” x 8 ½” heavy weight Neenah Solar white card panel. After misting it with some water, I placed it inside the folder and ran it through my die cutting machine. Next, I ran the other end of the panel again with the same embossing folder, making sure to use a different area of the folder. Voila! the result looked as if it was a slimline embossing folder originally and the image looked fabulous! I arranged the two large flowers with the blue daisy on top with foam tape and tucked the leaves underneath. The result was a three-tier dimension which gave the card so much interest. I debated adding some ink splatters, but in the end, opted not to in order to maintain a clean look. For the sentiment, I chose the “Just a Note” from Altenew’s Craft Your Life Project Kit – Fragrant Florals.
For even more dimension (what can I say, I love dimension!), I added foam tape behind the entire panel and adhered it to a slim line side folding heavy weight white card base. To finish the card, I added some Studio Katia’s Exotic Onyx Pearls.
I hope you like the cards. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
See you soon.
Lillian
