Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year! I hope the new year will be a prosperous, joyful, and healthy one! Over the holiday break, I was able to get back to my Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) Level 2 coursework. In the Polychromatic class, Nina-Marie Trapani showed us how to use colors and color combinations in our cardmaking. I have followed Nina’s work for a while and her class didn’t disappoint. I was especially inspired to apply monochromatic colors in cards. I am sharing two cards today featuring Altenew Craft Your Life Project Kit – Garden Rose.
Card #1 – Sending Hugs
Steps:
- On an A2 Neenah Solar White panel, using Altenew Sea Shore ink cube set, I stamped the larger rose image following the layering guide. I used the Mountain Mist for the first layer, Valcano Lake for the second and Lagoon for the third layer.
- For added texture, I heat embossed the third layer one more time with Altenew Translucent embossing powder.
- I repeated stamping the rose image multiple times until the panel was filled. Each time, I made sure to stamping different angles and filled in all the open gaps.
- I trimmed the panel down to 3.75” x 5”. To enhance the design, I cut a 1/16th rectangle frame to create a negative space.
- With foam tape, I adhered the panel to a slightly larger teal color card stock.
- For the sentiment, I die cut “Hugs” three times from the Craft Your Life Project Kit – Floral Acanthus. After adhering the layers together, I Ink blended to create an ombre effect using Volcano Lake and Mountain Mist inks leaving the bottom half white. For added shine, I heat embossed the sentiment with Translucent embossing powder to match the rose centers. I stamped “sending” in black pigment ink and attached it right above “Hugs”
- To finish the card, I added some Spellbinders fashion jet color pearl dots.
Card #2 – Thanks
Steps:
- After misting an A2 teal cardstock to prevent cracking, I heat embossed it using the Garden Rose 3D embossing folder.
- I used Altenew woodless blue and teal watercolor pencils along with some mica powders mixed with some water, I colored the roses and leaves. I wanted to lightly add some shadows and depths as well as shimmer to the raised areas.
- Since I used very little water, the panel didn’t take long to dry. Once dried, I applied some white pigment ink to the raised parts of the panel. I let that dry once more before applying pearl / silver Perfect Pearl powders.
- I cut out 1/16th inch frame with a light blue / teal color card stock and two more layers with white card stock. I adhered the pieces together for dimension and attached the frame to the panel. To match the frame, I adhered the entire panel to a slightly larger light blue/teal card stock.
- For the sentiment, I die cut the fancy “Thanks” three times and ink-blended it to create an ombre effect using Emerald, Lagoon and Volcano Lake inks. I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder for added shine. I like to heat emboss at least three times to get the raised look. Next, I adhered the sentiment on top of the rectangle. To complete the card, I scattered some enamel dots around the sentiment.
I love how these projects turned out. I hope you found some inspirations to apply monochromatic color schemes on your card making Until next time, happy crafting!
Lillian
