Hi everyone, I live in the desert southwest and when I first moved here, I was astonished to find out that beautiful hummingbirds are everywhere here. When I am out running or walking, I am usually distracted by their distinct chirps. Earlier this year, I was so happy to find a little nest in the backyard. After watching the two eggs hatched and anticipating they would grow up, within a week, the little ones didn’t make it. I surmised it was due to an excessive heat wave at the time. I was heartbroken. I still see some other hummingbirds swing by to rest on the branches almost daily. These little beauties are so much joy to watch.
Anyway, Simon Says Stamps recently did a new Big Dream release that included a layered hummingbird wafer die set. As soon as I saw the release, I knew I had to have it. Today, I am sharing a card made for a friend’s upcoming birthday using this stamp along with two gorgeous flower die sets in the same release.
Steps to make the card:
- Die cut SSS Layered Hummingbird, Alstroemeria Stem, and Blossom Vine using 80lb Neenah Solar White layering cardstock. I also had a branch die cut left over from another project.
- Ink blended these elements using different inks for variety. I used Pink Fresh Studio inks in the pink, purple, yellow, blue and green families.
- Dry embossed an A2 heavy weight cardstock using Altenew Always Sunshine 3D embossing folder for texture and added interest.
- I added a gem for the bird’s eye, Ranger’s glossy accents for the beak and some Ranger Star Dust Stickles glitter on the wing and tail. Love the iridescence!
- After adhering the elements on the panel, I finished the card with a matte silver foil “Sending Love” sentiment and some gems for added sparkle.
I hope you enjoy the card! Until next time, happy crafting!
