Hello! Welcome back. Do you struggle with scene building cards? This style is definitely out of my comfort zone. Today, I am sharing a project as part of Altenew’s Educator Certification Program (AECP) I am participating in.
This is my fourth submission to level 1 Seasonal Scene Building class taught by Nichol Spohr. I am a long-time fan of Nichol’s work, and I was excited to find out that Nichol was the instructor. She is the undisputed queen of scene building cards!
Nichol showed us many unique ways to create scene cards. Scene building does not come naturally to me. After watching the lessons several times, I settled on creating a window scene for my assignment.
I don’t have a window die and I didn’t want to invest in additional products or supplies other than items in my stash. To create a window, I die cut the 2”x2” stitched die from Waffle Flower Nesting Stitched Squares die set, four times on a A2 Tim Holtz kraft stock panel. Next, I embossed the panel using Altenew’s Brick Wall 3D embossing folder. For added texture, I applied some gold, ruby and copper metallic rub-ons on some bricks.
For the inside of the window, I wanted to create a scene with a planter and a cat. This scene card is in memory of a cat name Frank. Steps taken:
- On the A2 heavy weight Neenah Solar white card base, I die cut the matching window with the same process as the outside panel described above.
- With VersaFine Clair nocturne ink, I stamped one of the cat images from Simon Says Stamp & My Favorite Things collaboration Purfect Friends stamp set. I colored it with Altenew Morning Frost, Evening Gray and Cotton Candy alcohol markers. Then, I fussy cut the image.
- For the planter, I die cut several leaves and the pot from Altenew’s Monstera 3D die set. I used two different green color cardstocks and a couple of Lindy’s Gang ink blended background for the pot.
- In order to ground the cat and the planter images, I die cut a 1.5” x 4.25” strip from kraft paper using the lattice die from Spellbinder’s Stacked Decorative Edges die set.
- I stamped “I missed seeing you” so that it appears through the top right window frame.
I adhered the brick panel to the card base with some foam tape for dimension. To complete the design, I die cut a leafy branch with two butterflies and affixed some gems for subtle shine.
The takeaway for me is that scene cards don’t have to be complicated. This card was created with a simple design, and I love how it turned out. I hope you like it too. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
See you soon.
