Hi, I needed to make a card for a friend who just got engaged. Spellbinders’ November 2022 Large Die Club Kit (Stylized Floral Kaleidoscope Slimline) is perfect for the occasion. I generally like to make cards with the recipient’s favorite colors in mind. The challenge for this particular card is to accommodate both his and her colors. His favorite colors are blue and emerald green. Hers are sunset hues of orange, red and purple. They both love gold accent for their home décor. For this project, I decided to make some custom-colored cardstocks that incorporate the couple’s favorite colors.
Steps:
- With a medium size watercolor brush, I used Lindy’s Gangs magical mica powders in hues of red, magenta, orange, and green to color on Tim Holtz’s distress watercolor cardstock panels which will be used for the die cut elements. For the slimline background, I used magenta as the base and overlaid with teal and green mica powders. I set the panels aside to dry naturally. I love how these panels turned out. The shimmer and iridescent added so much interest to the die cut elements and the background.
- The stylized flowers come with three layering dies. I die cut three layers using the custom-made colored cardstocks above. For the top outline layer, I wanted to incorporate green into the floral design. Hence, I die cut the outline once with Spellbinders’ brushed gold cardstock and the other with the green panel I made.
- For the background outline die, I used a gray color cardstock. To add some contrast, I added the green / teal panel behind it that I made as described in step 1 above. For the card base, I used a lighter gray shade card stock.
- For some dimension, after adhering the four floral layers, I added some foam tapes before attaching them to the slim line panel. Next, I added some Studio Katia’s exotic onyx pearls to the floral centers.
- For the sentiment, I used Simon Says Stamps “Congratulations” die set which I die cut three times with heavy weight black cardstock and once with the green / teal customed colored cardstock. After adhering the layers, I heat embossed the sentiment with clear embossing powder several times and the last layer with Altenew’s translucent embossing powder.
- Since I had some left-over colored panels, I decided to use the outline floral to add some interest to the front and back flap of a matte silver slimline envelope.
I love how the card and matching envelop turned out. The shimmer from the mica brought so much interest to the overall design. I hope the couple will love the card as well. Thanks for stopping by. See you next time.
