Hi Friends,
Hot Foiling is trendy in the card making world right now. Have you gotten into hot foiling yet? I invested in a Spellbinder Glimmer Hot Foil system a while ago but haven’t really played with it much. In many ways, I am intimidated by hot foiling just like I am with alcohol markers. Not long ago, I saw Jaycee’s tutorial using thin steel dies to hot foil and I thought Altenew’s Craft-A-Flower Open Peony is the perfect die set to give this technique a try. I am playing along with Altenew’s January 2023 Inspiration Challenge and Color Throwdown ctd727.
Steps:
I started with die cutting the peony and leaves using different shades of pink, yellow and greens card stocks. For variation in the flower, I also used some left over dark pink background made with mica powders.
Next, using Spellbinder’s Satin Rose Gold foil and the layering thin steel dies, I hot foiled the elements. Tip: I taped the foil to the die cuts to prevent things from moving around. You can tell everything is secured when the dies click to the elements. For my Spellbinder Platinum 6 machine, I needed to add an extra thin cardstock shim. Be sure to test your machine for best result. Several of the elements were slightly over foiled; and I was able to remove the excess with the Tombow mono sand eraser.
Then, to add some depths and shades, I ink blended the peonies and leaves with Altenew Sugared Candies and Tropical Forest ink cube sets. For the flower center, I decided to give it extra interest by adhering some gilding flakes. I also painted some Ranger’s Green Patina Perfect Pearls on the leaves for some shine.
The flowers were assembled following the layering guide that came with the die set. It was very easy to do. For the sentiment, I die cut “Hello” with rose gold card stock.
For added interest, using Altenew’s Circle Quilt Cover die, I dry embossed a slimline heavy weight Neenah Solar white card panel. I splattered some Altenew Ruberllite crisp dye ink mixed with Ranger’s Perfect Pearls. For a cohesive design, I attached the background panel to berry color cardstock and rose gold matte layers.
To complete the card, I scattered some Hero Arts clear enamel dots on the leaves and the panel.
The card turned out so well. I love the foiled details on the peonies and leaves. Thanks Jaycee for the inspiration. Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting!
Lillian
