Hi everyone,
Today, I am sharing a card using Spellbinder’s July small die club of the month – Day at the Beach. I am generally not very good with scene cards. This die set was so much fun to practice with creating scene cards. I started with die-cutting the person with Simon Says Stamp’s ivory card stock. The card stock isn’t dark enough for the skin tone, so I used Altenew’s peach perfect alcohol marker to lightly darken the body and arms. For the hat, I originally used a pink rose pattern paper from one of Simon Says Stamp’s old club kits in my stash. I later switched it to a navy floral print to match the tote. There are two parts to make the hat. I used the “smile” die with the floral print and the solid die with a dark navy card stock. For the round top part of the hat, I used Sweet Berry card stock from Spellbinder’s Journey line. I also added a little flower for additional interest to the hat. For the hat strings, flip flop strap and tote handle, I used Tonic Studios Baroque Rose satin effect mirror card paper.
Incidentally, there is only 1 die for the hat string. If you would like two strings like I have on this card, you will need to die cut it twice. For the swimsuit and flip flop, I used a pocky dot pattern paper from my stash. I utilized the Sweet Berry card stock from Spellbinder’s Journey line and square pattern paper from my stash along with the same Tonic Studio Baroque Rose satin effect mirror card paper for the blanket.
Meanwhile, I thought Spellbinder’s Radiant Burst embossing folder would make a wonderful background for the scene. I embossed it with a heavy weight card panel which I trimmed slightly smaller than A2 size. For the sand part, I trimmed a 1.25” from 5.5” strip from the Essential Craft Papers Ink Drops – Earth 6×6 pattern paper by Craft Consortium and adhered it to the radian burst embossed background panel. Separately, I want to point out that there is a right and left side for the flip flop strap. Also, because some of the pattern papers were a little too thin, I adhered the swimsuit, flip flops and blanket with heavy white card stock scraps to ensure these pieces are sturdy.
After adhering the blanket on the sandy part, I made sure the lady was centered between the radian burst background. Then, I adhered the flip flop to her left and the tote to her right at a slight angle. For sentiment, I used a “Sunshine and Good Times” stamp from Spellbinder’s July stamp set of the month – Have a Chill Summer. I stamped it at the bottom left with VersaFine Nocturne pigment ink. I finished the card with some Iridescent Bubbles from Studio Katia. I added a little pink gem from Honey Bee Stamps to the flower on the hat. The word “Smile” didn’t quite stand out, so I added some star dust stickles from Ranger for added bling. Finally, I adhered the entire panel to a heavy weight A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) horizontal card base.
I hope you enjoy the card! Until next time, happy crafting!
Lillian
